LOOKING BACK AT THE GARDEN CLUB...
Actual excerpts from minutes of the Garden Club over the years
JUNE:
1946
The fifth meeting of the Port Washington Garden Club was held on Sunday, June 9, 1946 at the Paul Beer farm. After the meeting, at which a motion was made to have a family picnic at Grossels Grove on July 28, the club enjoyed a wienie roast and delicious home-made doughnuts. There was a catastrophe: Maude Dix sprained her ankle getting out of the car.
1948
The seventh meeting of the Port Washington Garden Club on June 14, 1948 was started with a pot luck supper held at the home of Joe and Evelyn Ubbink. It was moved and seconded that we donate one dollar to the Wisconsin Garden Club Federation Scholarship. Also, a motion was made and seconded that the P.W. Garden Club should write to the Committee on Wisconsin Women and object to the inaccurate write-up of Port Washington in the book “Wisconsin Historic Sites”. Both motions were carried.
1952
Twenty-five members and six guests gathered at the home of Alma Marquart on the evening of June 25, 1952 for the regular meeting of the Garden club. Since the evening was unusually warm, the screen was set up out of doors, and the members enjoyed the colored pictures of their European trip shown by Ruth Henze and Maxine St. Peter. Discussion as to whether the Garden Club would arrange flowers on the stage for commencement followed. It was the consensus of those present that the Club would continue this custom indefinitely. Mr. Wilke then showed the club various figures of cypress knees gathered in Florida.
