The Port Gardener
by Elizabeth O'Connell
I'm sorry it's taken so long to post this but we're still getting our garden ready for the garden walk. Here's what our Rose Society sources tell us about other "easy care roses."
"Easy care roses are easier to come by these days. We've started growing Bill Radler's new one 'Carefree Sunshine' cousin to 'Knockout'. 'Carefree Sunshine' is a bright yellow which matures to a creamy butter color. There's not a sign of any disease yet and it's always throwing up sprays. I'm quite taken by it."
"Others would be in the Griffith Buck series. They're not always available at local nurseries, but can be ordered through Wayside (grafted) and Roses Unlimited (own root) which I prefer. Varieties include 'Prairie Princess', 'Prairie Harvest', and 'Prairie Flower.'"
'Stanwell
Perpetual'
Also on the list is 'Stanwell Perpetual." It's little pink fading to white, double and fragrant. It has reliable repeat bloom. It's 3-5 feet tall and about as wide.
